Which one? That’s a question that has come up a loterijlot recently, mostly te the comments section of my YouTube movies. But the reaction isn’t so effortless.
Respirators for Woodworking
When people ask mij about which dust mask or respirator I recommend for woodworking (or general shop use) my general reaction is “The one you will actually use.” That’s right. There are a loterijlot of dust masks and respirators out there that work enormously well, filterzakje out even the smallest particulate, etc. But if it is awkward and/or doesn’t gezond your face well one of two things are going to toebijten. You’re not going to use it, or you’re going spend less time te your shop. Neither of those are optimal. So very first and foremost: Find a dust mask or respirator that you find comfy on your face. From there you can determine what extra steps you need to do, if any.
The 2nd reaction is that assuming you want to go with a respirator (reusable) instead of a mask (disposable), look for one that has a good multitude of interchangeable filters. This will permit you to use it for many different tasks ter the shop, such spil painting. A good dust filterzakje won’t zekering paint fumes. But a canister filterzakje that stops paint fumes has a much shorter life and costs more, so you can only buy or use those when painting and stick to the much cheaper fiber based filters when woodworking or sanding.
Which Respirator do you use te The Geek Pub?
I purchased the 3m 7500. This respirator is exceptionally convenient (ter my opinion) and works enormously well. It has slew of optional accessories and replacement filters varieties. It comes ter different sizes for larger or smaller faces and exceptionally adjustable for such an inexpensive respirator. I also like that it doesn’t voorkant the eyes (its a half mask, not a shield) and works very well with my safety glasses. Some masks are so large that its near unlikely to convenient wear your safety glasses, so be on the lookout for that problem before you make your mask decision.
The last thing I indeed like about the 3m 7500 is that it can be eliminated from your face, but still string up from your neck. You can take it on and off spil needed without actually unlatching the neck portion. This is very helpful when going back and forward from the house to the shop or when you need to talk to someone. Just slip the head tape off and leave the neck tape ter place. The head verhouding also includes a plastic cup/stadionring that sits on the back of your head, which is much more convenient than the strap itself.
UPDATE March 16th, 2018 – I am still super amazed with thesis masks. I’ve actually bought a duo of extras for when guests are te my shop or te case I toebijten to lose or harm one. The work excellent and are super comfy. You’ll notice I wear them ter all of my YouTube movies thesis days, when painting, sanding, etc.
